Answering Your Embarrassing Fertility Questions

We provide a safe space to answer those awkward and embarrassing fertility questions

The journey to conceive is deeply personal. That means a lot of people are reluctant to talk about it. Additionally, many hopeful parents hesitate to ask what they think are embarrassing fertility questions. However, questions about fertility are always welcome at ArkLaTex Fertility.

Dr. David T. Vandermolen believes that an important part of his job is to educate his patients. Here, our North Louisiana fertility doctor sheds some light on the most commonly asked questions about fertility.

Providing answers to some embarrassing fertility questions

If you have embarrassing fertility questions, our North Louisiana fertility doctor has answers. From the basic questions to the ones that feel awkward to ask, Dr. Vandermolen is here with answers.

How often should we have sex to conceive? For the best chance of conceiving, aim to have sex every day or every other day around ovulation (release of the egg). You can use an ovulation predictor kit to determine your ovulation window.

Do I need to lie down or elevate my hips after sex to get pregnant? It is not necessary to lie down or elevate your hips after sex.

Is one sexual position more likely to help you conceive? No, research has not found that a single sexual position can improve the odds of conceiving. Sperm are fast swimmers that can survive for days in the female reproductive system, and no position can improve that.

Is an orgasm required for pregnancy? No, women can get pregnant without an orgasm.

Is it okay to have sex during pregnancy? Unless our North Louisiana fertility doctor says otherwise, it is generally safe to have sex during pregnancy.

Can a sexually transmitted infection (STI) affect my fertility? Yes, STIs can damage both female and male infertility. For example, gonorrhea and chlamydia can cause pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) and damage the reproductive organs.

Getting prompt treatment for STIs can help avoid these complications. Additionally, certain fertility treatments can help you conceive if you have damage from them.

Can I still get pregnant with irregular periods? Yes, it is possible to conceive with an irregular period. However, it may take longer and require help from fertility treatments like IUI or IVF.

Dr. Vandermolen can run tests to find out why you have irregular periods, and then order treatments to help.
