What should you expect with fertility testing?
When patients and their partners visit our fertility clinic, they are often looking for an answer about why they haven’t gotten pregnant. Our Northern Louisiana fertility clinic expert, David T. Vandermolen, MD, MS, employs multiple advanced tests when diagnosing infertility. Comprehensive fertility testing enables Dr. Vandermolen to create a personalized treatment plan designed to help patients create or expand their families.
A review of infertility basics
Infertility is defined as not getting pregnant after one year of regular, unprotected intercourse. For women older than 35, the timeframe drops to six months. For about one-third of cases, female infertility is the cause, and male factor infertility is the culprit in another one-third of situations. Unexplained infertility or a combination of various factors makes up the remainder. Our Northern Louisiana fertility clinic expert specializes in diagnosing infertility and providing advanced treatment, helping our patients can welcome babies into their lives.
The 411 on fertility testing
We recommend fertility testing because it enables Dr. Vandermolen to identify common hindrances to conception. Lifestyle factors, hormone imbalances, physical abnormalities and other issues can all affect your ability to get pregnant. Fertility testing provides a comprehensive view of your reproductive health and usually includes the following.
- Initial consultation
During this conversation, you will meet with our Northern Louisiana fertility clinic expert to review your medical history, discuss lifestyle choices, and understand your family planning goals. - Standard bloodwork
This panel will check hormone levels to gauge ovulatory function, ovarian reserve and egg quality. - Pelvic ultrasound
With this procedure, Dr. Vandermolen can visualize the ovaries, uterus and fallopian tubes to look for anything out of the ordinary. - Semen analysis
The first step in evaluating male factor infertility is a semen analysis to assess sperm volume, concentration, motility and morphology.
At Ark LaTeX Fertility, we want our patients to know that they are not alone.
