National Infertility Awareness Week

Supporting patients during National Infertility Awareness Week

Infertility is not just a medical journey, but it is also an emotional one that can leave patients feeling isolated. National Infertility Awareness Week, or NIAW, is a way to ensure that those facing infertility challenges understand they are not alone. Each year, the last full week of April is devoted to increasing awareness of this common medical condition, and our Northern Louisiana infertility specialist is proud to support the cause.

In taking a holistic approach to caring for patients, our regional fertility center recognizes that we are not just caring for our patients’ physical needs. We are also attuned to the rollercoaster of emotions patients are feeling. It’s important to feel supported, and simply knowing others share and understand your struggle can serve as an important source of community for those trying to conceive.

National Infertility Awareness Week focuses on a common challenge

Infertility is more common than people realize. According to the World Health Organization, 1 in 6 people around the world struggle with infertility. While infertility was once a taboo topic of discussion, this is thankfully beginning to change with increased awareness.

The National Infertility Association (RESOLVE) is working to bring together the many people who struggle with infertility through National Infertility Awareness Week, which is April 21-27. NIAW is a terrific opportunity to remind men, women and couples that they can raise their collective voices and talk about issues facing this community. It is also a week of intense advocacy to promote the interests of fertility patients at the national level in Washington, DC.

To follow posts and shared stories through social media, check out https://www.infertilityawareness.org/ to get involved. This year, National Infertility Awareness Week organizers are asking people to use hashtags such as #NIAW and #LeaveYourMark to raise understanding and eliminate the stigmas associated with infertility.

We stand with our patients during NIAW – and always

Navigating infertility can be overwhelming, but as more people speak out about their challenges during National Infertility Awareness Week, our Northern Louisiana infertility specialist reassures them that they are not alone. It can be challenging because, while some friends or family members are well-intended, they cannot truly empathize in the same way other hopeful parents can.
